History of Kalsubai:
According to legend, Kalsubai gets its name from Kalsu, a Koli girl. Kalsu enjoyed exploring the forest. She agreed to work for a Koli family on the condition that she not be required to sweep or clean pots when she arrived in Indore one day at the base of the hill now known as Kalsubai. Things were going smoothly until one day when a family member gave Kalsu the instruction to clean some pots. She followed instructions but then promptly climbed a hill and remained there till she passed away.
As per another legend, In the highlands lived a girl by the name of Kalsubai. She assisted in local activities in addition to healing villagers and animals. She accidentally left for the peak one day and never came back.
What to see?
The new Kalsubai temple is the first step when beginning to ascend the Kalsubai hill. People who are unable to scale the peak have this shrine built for their convenience. There are two steps cut into the stone that are thought to be Kalsubai’s steps after passing the second ladder. The Bhandhardara’s bottomless reservoir, which is just in front of us, draws notice. Aundha, Vishramgad, Alang, Madan, Kulang, Matheran, and Harishchandragad are prominent in the east.
How to reach Kalsubai?
This peak can be reached mostly via Bari village. Bhandhardara is around 6 kms from the settlement of “Bari.” On the Mumbai-Nashik line, you should get to Igatpuri if you want to travel to Bari Village. ST should arrive in Bari village if travelling from Igatpuri to Bhandhardara.
Also you can get down at Kasara and hire Jeeps or take ST bus for Bari Village.
From here, it takes 3 hours to get to the summit. Three locations along the route now have iron ladders installed. If you leave your bags in the hamlet itself, you may go to the summit in 5 to 6 hours. A creek is there once you leave the village. There is a shrine nearby after you cross this stream. From this temple’s rear, a trail ascends directly to the peak’s summit.
