Asherigad – complete guide

About Asherigad Fort:

Asherigad is said to have been built by Bhojraja of the Shilahar dynasty. As a result, it is predicted that this fort will stand for roughly 800 years. Portuguese invaders later captured this fort and rebuilt it. The Peshwas captured this fort in the Konkan expedition in 1737. After 1818, it was surrendered to the British.

Difficulty Level: Easy

Asherigad fort

On the summit of Asherigad Fort, there exist the remains of deserted palaces. There are also a lot of Chautharas with grooves. They ought to be built to remove sewage and rainwater that collects around the house. The fort’s cave is a medium size with a wide aperture. However, it is buried well under the rock, blocking any access for the icy wind and cold. The cave’s floor is rather uneven. However, there are stone beds (or “berths”) both inside and outdoors for the guards to sleep on. At the entrance to the cave, there are two Jaswandi trees.

How to reach Asherigad fort:

The fort can only be reached in one direction. Take a private car travelling on this highway from Palghar and get off at the “Khodkona” village stop, which is about 10–11 kilometres from “Mastan Naka.” The village lies around 1 KM off the main road.

There is an iron ladder installed at the patch which was earlier difficult to climb making it a very safe trek for everyone.
